Il Mestolo Gigante, 2025

A ladle, with holes. Inspired by the past performances around transformations and activations through the symbol of the Minestrone soup. In one of those performances, Minestron, I was driving in circles on a boat, with an Italian dialect autotune monologue of myths and legends of this part of Ticino, around the recipe of the minestrone soup. The giant ladle. A reference to the comic, theatrical, gesture of the French expression “brasser de l’air” as an endless attempt to circulate elements (brasser). The sculpture elicits an imagery of the giants around it, opening up the spaces upon the fair, showing the structure, the backstage, the behind the scenes of the white walls in the Palexpo hall. Here, at Art Genève, the ladle becomes as well a playful metaphor for the attempts of the art market and the self-representative role of artists with larger gestures, louder voices, better self-representation. From a dramaturgy from the Dramma Giocoso and Magic tricks and TV Shows, as well as Props of theater/film set, the exaggeration and obfuscation, of the magnification of an everyday symbol, reinforcing the narratives of the works.

Il Mestolo Gigante was presented at Art Genève for Le Prix Mobilière 2025 in Genève (CH) in January 2025
